Daikichi Amano has become one of the most exciting new visual artists working in Japan today, earning himself an international cult following. Drawing on iconography and mythology, Amano creates savage warriors, sea monsters, and devoured Sirens. He places them in all-consuming dioramas, evoking dramatic primal fears and dark desires.

Amano has brought to life the woodcut printed characters of traditional Shunga imagery (Japanese erotica), in a modern day interpretation. Looking at these images in the flesh, one will notice a strangely seductive power.

The photographs in his exhibition at Bongout Gallery do not hang in the shadows of their parental hardcore films. Rather, their conception, which inherits a lively narrative, is saturated with mystique.

Amano is a master director, producer, editor, photographer, columnist and pornographer. With the help from his studio, Genki-Genki, Amano challenges the conceptual line between art and pornography, and continually obscures this divide for future generations.

Daikichi Amano gilt mittlerweile als einer der aufregendsten jungen Künstler aus Japan, der bereits eine eingeschworene Fangemeinde um sich versammelt hat. Sich kunsthistorischer Ikonographie und der Mythologie bedienend, kreiert Amano barbarische Krieger, Seemonster und zerfressene Sirenen. Er ordnet sie in vereinnahmenden Dioramen an, mit denen er dramatische Urängste und dunkle Begehren heraufbeschwört.

Amano hat die als Holzschnitte gedruckten Charaktere der Shunga-Bilderwelt (Japanische erotische Kunst) in einer Alltagsinterpretation zum Leben erweckt. Wer diese Bilder in natura sieht, wird ihre eigentümlich verführerische Kraft spüren. Die Fotografien in seiner Ausstellung in der Bongout Galerie stehen dabei nicht im Schatten ihrer Vorläufer, den Hardcore Filmen. Ihre Konzeption ist lebendig-narrativ und mit Mystik gesättigt. Amano ist ein meisterhafter Regisseur, Produzent, Editor, Fotograf, Kolumnist und Pornograf. Unterstützt von seinem Studio, Genki-Genki, hinterfragt Amano die Trennlinie zwischen Kunst und Pornografie und verdunkelt diese Kluft mehr und mehr für die nächsten Generationen.
